A few months ago we published a blog about daring home paint colors, and now we think we should follow up with the flip side to that post. While daring exterior paint colors are often fun and bold, they usually only exist as trends and tend to go out of style as quickly as they came into style. This opens up the potential for a lot of regret if you feel like you have to change your paint color to keep up with the trend. So with this post, we’ll be talking about six timeless exterior paint colors that we think would look great on your northern Colorado home. This one goes out to the traditionalists, or at least the ones who don’t want to regret the color choice they choose for the exterior of their home.
Buttery YellowThis light yellow color is extremely inviting – plain and simple. It’s also a classic. If you want to give your home a welcoming curb appeal, then a light yellow would be a great choice. Typically this color looks best on wood, but you can also pull it off with a brick exterior. That’s just how flexible this color is!Tan/KhakiA light neutral like tan or khaki is never a bad choice when it comes to exterior painting. This color is easy to landscape around, as well as decorate around with trim, shutters, etc. Especially if you live in a more traditional neighborhood, this would undoubtedly be a paint color that would blend well with your surroundings.Light GreyIn the same vein, a light grey is a neutral that will always be around. Light grey will give your home a clean and sleek appearance from the curb, especially if you pair it with white trim. Just like the rest of the colors, a light grey is also a great exterior paint color choice because it won't clash with your roof color – that is, if you have traditional shingles.Pale PinkLike light yellow, a pale pink is a fun way to spice up a neutral feel. As well as inviting, this color is playful, soft, and peaceful, and would suite a home that embodies those qualities nicely. We especially think that pale pink would look great in Colorado during the summer!Brick RedRed is probably a classic because of brick homes. Something about that brick red color is just homey, and many homeowners are painting their wood homes this red brick color. We can assure you that as long as brick is still being used to construct homes, this color will be around. This red is strong and comforting, and pairs nicely with classic white shutters. Green really shows up well against brick red, which makes it ideal for homes with a lot of landscaping or ivy.WhiteWhere red exterior paint most likely comes from brick, white exterior paint most likely comes from the earliest white washed wooden homes. White looks good on homes for a number of reasons. First, it’s clean. The only thing to consider is just like a white car, a white house will show dirt when it does end up getting dirty. Second, it looks great year round. Whether your white home is blanketed in snow, or basking in a sunny summer day, it’s going to look great!Contact UsFoothills believes that painting is the easiest way to improve your home. Whether you’re unsure of the painting project you want to start, or you know exactly what you want, contact Foothills! With the end of the year right around the corner, it’s time to finish any of those small painting projects you were planning on but never got around to completing! At Foothills, we think that painting is the easiest way to make a difference in your northern Colorado home, especially if it is done by a quality painting service. These four touch-ups are easy, especially for our professional painters, and will make your home extra inviting – just in time for the holiday season!
TrimLittle details make all the difference. Crown molding may seem like a minor detail, but it can transform the mood and feel of any room in your home. From traditional to more contemporary, molding is the finishing touch you need to complete your room. Not only will moldings make the rooms of your home more welcoming to family and guests, they will increase the resale value of your home. No matter the size, shape, or color of your room, crown molding is a valuable option for you. Repainting your trim will bring any room back to life!Accent WallYour rooms wouldn’t be special without the things inside of them – so show them off! Accenting a wall creates a focal point that emphasizes the items on or near the accented wall. Consider what you want to highlight in the room, then paint a different color on the wall that these items are on or right in front of. For common areas like living rooms and dens, accent walls complement and emphasize fireplaces and TVs especially well. In the bedroom, an accented wall at the head of the bed usually shows the bed off the best. Not only will an accent wall liven up your room, it will make your belongings look great as well!Paint Your Front DoorThis exterior painting project is a minor task that will make a huge difference! A new paint color on your front door will make your home feel new and exciting for you and your guests, and you’ll be reminded of this every time you come and go! Don't want a new color? Consider just applying a new coat – your home will seem inviting before your guests even step inside. Red has always been thought of as the most welcoming front door color, but there are plenty of colors that will work for front doors depending on how bold you’re willing to be!Plain Ol’ Touch UpsAdding a new coat of paint to your home is actually a great way to make it more inviting. Many people paint their interior once and then don’t ever paint again. Over time, the paint naturally fades or becomes damaged by wear and tear. A fresh coat of paint, even if it’s the same color as your existing paint, can transform a room depending on how old the existing paint job is. Our professional painters are trained to recognize when it’s time for a new coat of paint, and they’d love to assess the interior of your home if you think it might be time.Contact UsIf you’re unsure of what painting services could benefit your home, our professional painters would love to stop by for a consultation. Give us a call! We know what styles and colors are in, as well as which interior painting practices can be most transformative! The post 4 Inviting Touches to Add to Your Home Before the Holidays appeared first on Foothills Painting. from http://foothillspainting.co/4-inviting-touches-add-home-holidays/
At Foothills, we think that painting is the easiest way to make a difference in your home – especially if the painting is done by a quality service. We know how much you value your home, and we do too, which is why we love sharing our painting tips with you and the rest of northern Colorado! Whether you have already decided on beginning a painting project, or are just looking for a way to freshen up your home a bit, consider the following reasons of why a quality painting service could be exactly what your home needs! Our professional painters excel in quality painting services, excellent customer service, and prompt and clear communication.
Hand Over Your StressYou could perform dozens of home renovation projects and achieve the exact aesthetic you’ve always wanted, but at what cost? A beautiful home is meaningless if you’re totally stressed out by your renovation project! Residential painting, interior or exterior, can often be a headache – especially if you have a large project. Hiring professional painting services is a great way to complete your project without having to carry the stress of it. We want you to enjoy the changes to your home, not worry about how you’re going to complete them!Add Value to Your HomeSecondly, quality painting services will add resale value to your home. This is always important, whether or not you’re intent on selling your home in the near future. Professional painting services add value to homes in more ways than just painting – especially when it comes to exterior services. Power washing is a standard exterior painting service that can completely transform the exterior of your home and give it added curb appeal. Additionally, professional painting services will be able to handle multi-surface jobs, exterior detailing of hard to reach spaces, and even deck restoration. Increased resale value won’t only be achieved through exterior painting services, but also by interior painting services. If you’re interested in ways that you could add resale value to your home through painting services, Foothills would love to help brainstorm with you.Little Changes, Big ResultsThe best part about quality painting services is that they can have huge results without breaking the bank – however, you need to know where to implement these small changes. Easy places to implement small changes include trim and accent walls. Adding a splash of color to one wall or refinishing trim can completely transform the inside of your home, giving it a fresh new look and making it even more impressive to your guests. These small changes can be just as transformative as knocking down interior walls or reflooring, but require way less time, energy, and money! If you’re unsure of what interior painting services could benefit your home, our professional painters would love to stop by for a consultation. Give us a call! We know what styles and colors are in, as well as which interior painting practices can be most transformative! The post How Quality Painting Services Make a Difference in Your Home appeared first on Foothills Painting. from http://foothillspainting.co/quality-painting-services-make-difference-home/
Foothills is dedicated to keeping your northern Colorado home or business looking up to date with our residential and commercial painting services! Sometimes trying to stay up to date is tricky, especially when it comes to paint color. The reason for this is because paint color is one of the most volatile aspects of commercial and residential painting. One year, a color or group of colors might be in, and the next, they might be totally out of style. On the other hand, there are some paint colors that have stood the test of time and will continue to stick around. Determining whether or not a paint color will just be a trend or whether it will stick around for a while is tricky. There isn’t much rhyme or reason behind why certain colors fade out of style and why some remain pertinent for years and years. However, we’ll attempt to diagnose what makes a paint color a trend versus a staple!
Test of TimeSo what makes a trend/fad/craze? Trends usually burn really hot, really fast. In other words, they are extremely popular for a relatively short period of time, but then they fade out of style. They don’t endure the test of time like more traditional paint colors – which isn’t always a bad thing! Buying into a trend can be fun, especially if you know beforehand, and are ok with the fact that your color choice might only be popular for a few years. One thing to ask yourself before adopting a trendy paint color is if you’d be ok spending money to change your paint once it goes out of style. So, how do you tell a trend? Trust your gut. If you can’t see a paint color remaining popular for over five years, it’s probably a trend!Bold or Quirky?Oftentimes, bold or quirky colors exist as trends rather than staples. Take mint for example. Super quirky – and definitely a trend! But to each his own. If you self-identify as bold or quirky, then a paint color trend might be for you! It’s usually safe to say a paint color will be a trend if you would describe it as bold or quirky.Check the Trends! So you think a paint color might be trending, but you’re not sure. Thankfully there are a lot of resources out there that help identify trends in home decor, home painting, and interior design. Walking through a home decor or furniture store will give you a good idea of what paint colors are in style at the time. However, a more convenient (and probably more accurate) resource for finding paint trends for both interior and exterior residential painting projects would be home painting or decorating blogs. You can make a pretty good bet that if the bloggers are blogging about a paint color, it’s probably trending, as bloggers really are leading the trends in home decor these days.Play it Safe with TrendsSometimes it’s safe to be a little risky with a trending paint color choice, like small interior details, for example. Maybe think twice before starting a large exterior home painting project with a color that might only be relevant for a few years. At the very least, make sure you’re committed to your decision! Unsure of where you should implement your trendy color choice? Foothills’ professional painters would love to help you with a color consultation! Or maybe you’re ready to begin your painting project. In which case, call us today for a quote and get your project started with Foothills! The post How to Tell if a Paint Color is a Trend or Here to Stay appeared first on Foothills Painting. from http://foothillspainting.co/tell-paint-color-trend-stay/
Foothills Painting loves keeping our readers informed on our painting jobs in northern Colorado! Every so often, we like to show off a little and share projects that we’re especially proud of. This project post is on a exterior residential painting service provided for a client in Fort Collins. 234 N. Grant Ave is an example of a quality exterior paint job on a medium sized housing complex. Foothills does both large and small projects! This particular project was completed by Foothills’ largest team in four days. This before image highlights our professional painters preparing the building for a new coat of paint with a pressure wash to remove any dirt, grime, or buildup that could be harmful for the new paint job. This step is always included in any of our exterior painting projects. This after image shows the effect that a Foothills paint job can have on your home or business. The tan and brown color scheme makes the building more welcoming and lively than before. The brown trim is neat and tidy as well. Not only does this new paint job improve the look and feel of the building, but it makes the landscaping look better as well. This view reinforces the amount of painting that our team was able to accomplish in four days. Whether you’re thinking about a painting project, or you’re already certain about the painting project you want to start, Foothills would love to assist you with any of your painting needs. Our professional painters have mastered the balance of quality painting and excellent customer service within the commercial and residential painting worlds. The post Project Post: Residential Painting Job in Fort Collins, CO appeared first on Foothills Painting. from http://foothillspainting.co/project-post-residential-painting-job-fort-collins-co/
Foothills Painting loves keeping homes and businesses in northern Colorado up to date! A big part of staying up to date is routine maintenance and updates, but we understand that updates to your home or business aren't always possible. However, going too long without maintenance work or an update can lead to your home or business becoming outdated – or worse, ugly. If this has happened to you, don't fear: Foothills’ professional painting contractors are more than capable of transforming the outdated parts of your home or business into current and good looking spaces.
Healthy PaintOften the exterior paint is the most recognizable indication of your home or business being outdated. We can boil this potential problem down into two categories: outdated physically and outdated stylistically. The physical condition of your home’s exterior paint job is more important than you might think. Not only does weathered paint look bad, but it fails to protect and seal your home the way the original paint job was designed to. Don't know what to look for in terms of physical deterioration? Our painters would love to assist you in inspecting your home or business’ exterior paint job. Any chipping, cracking, or molding paint should be fixed with a new coat of paint. Foothills will provide you with advice you can trust when it comes to whether or not you should repaint your home or business due to physical deterioration. If you do need a new paint job, Foothills would love to help you with it.Out of StyleEven if your exterior paint is healthy, it might just be out of style! We’ve been painting homes and businesses for quite a while, so we know the “in colors.” We also know how paint color affects homes. If you’re not sure if your exterior paint job is out of style, our painters can answer that question for you! Picking an exterior paint color for your home or business is an important decision that can affect your home’s curb appeal or your revenue. If you know that your paint job could use an update but you’re not sure what color would be the best choice, our painters would love to assist you with a color consultation.Interior UpgradeThe interior of your home or business is just as important as the exterior, and the paint job in both settings is a huge contributing factor to how you view your space and how guests and employees view it. An outdated or ugly living room just isn’t fun to look at, let alone sit in. Foothills’ contractors can transform any outdated area in your home into a welcoming and engaging space for both you and your guests. When it comes to your business, you need a current interior paint job. An outdated interior paints a horrible picture of your business. Not only does it bore employees, leading to decreased production, it looks terrible to customers who enter your office space. The last thing you want is for a potential customer to think that your business is behind the times because of its interior paint job. If you need an interior paint job transformation for your business, our contractors would be a great choice. We are experienced at working in commercial settings, and have mastered the balance of completing quality work without disturbing our customers’ office operations. If you think your home or business could use an updated paint job, feel free to contact our painters. We specialize in excellent customer service, clear communication, and quality painting service! The post Transform the Outdated and Ugly With a Painting Contractor appeared first on Foothills Painting. from http://foothillspainting.co/transform-outdated-ugly-painting-contractor/
Foothills understands that your home is unique and special to you and your family. If you’re thinking about painting your home’s interior, consider a color choice that will highlight just how unique your most personal space is. In the world of interior design, there are definitely some hard and fast dos and don’ts, and following the crowd is often the best – and safest – option. But when it comes to painting your home, you can afford to experiment with less conventional colors. Sure, you have your safe and popular options of paint color, like white, blue, and neutrals, but what about the less conventional colors? We thought we’d take some time to love on the underdogs and highlight four underrated interior paint colors that we think would look great in your home.
PurplePurple can be polarizing; people usually either love it or hate it. However, everyone can agree that purple is eccentric. Whether you want to jazz up your home with a small project, or paint an entire room, purple is flexible. Depending on the shade, purple can be used in a variety of different ways and in many different rooms. Don’t want to follow the crowd and paint your bedroom blue? Consider a moody purple like violet. Violet is deep without being dark, so it will have the same relaxing effect in your bedroom that blue would. Maybe you have a large room with a lot of natural light. A light shade of purple like lavender is a unique and refreshing choice that can be used on entire walls or for detailing – on crown molding for instance. However you use purple in your home, one thing is for sure – you’ll be part of the brave few who do!YellowIt’s hard not to feel happy when you’re looking at yellow. Yellow is extremely adaptable in interior painting because it can be bold without being overpowering, or light without being boring. Whatever shade of yellow you choose, it’s sure to set a happy and cheerful tone in the room you use it in. Yellow is great for accent walls if you want to add a splash of color to a room without undertaking a huge painting project. A deep yellow would probably be the best option if you’re going that route, however. All in all, your home will become more welcoming and cheerful with a dose of yellow.GreenGreen is seriously underrated in interior painting. We liken green to blue’s little brother who always gets forgotten. If you’re going for the tranquil feel of blue, but still want to be unique, consider green. The color of healing, green is a soothing color choice that would be great in any room that you want to make feel peaceful. It can create a more traditional mood in lighter shades, or a more eccentric and bold mood in darker shades.OrangeOrange often gets a bad wrap for being obnoxious. This is fair. But we think a deeper, calmer orange like burnt orange looks great in homes! If you’re thinking about repainting a room in your home, consider this color. Burnt orange is welcoming without being too stimulating, and it works for entire rooms or in small amounts. We’d suggest burnt orange in rooms where you want guests to feel welcomed and cozy, like the living room or dining room, but the choice is yours! We Can HelpThese four color choices are underrated and sometimes tricky to pull off. If you’re unsure about how to implement a unique color in your home, our professional painters would be more than happy to help you with color choices. We have been serving families and businesses in the northern Colorado area for almost 20 years, and specialize in excellent customer service and quality work. Give us a call if you’re ready to get your painting project started! The post 4 Underrated Interior Paint Colors for Your Home appeared first on Foothills Painting. from http://foothillspainting.co/4-underrated-interior-paint-colors-home/
You’ve decided to paint your home! Congratulations! Now for the hard part: when are you going to start your project? Painting the exterior of your home can be trickier than the interior, the main reason being that the great outdoors is unpredictable. Weather is the determining force in the world of exterior painting, and unfortunately it doesn’t always cooperate. But there’s good news: from years of experience, Foothills Painting knows the best times to paint your home! Let’s start with what you need to know about the ideal conditions for painting your house.
Ideal ConditionsPaint drying is related to temperature and moisture. So while it’s obvious that you don’t want to paint your house while it’s raining outside, you also don’t want to paint when the temperature outside is extremely cold or hot. Extreme temperatures can cause paint to dry unevenly, lead to clumps, or expose brush strokes in the paint while it’s drying. Generally, the months in the middle of winter or summer aren’t great for painting your home. Humidity is an important moisture factor to consider and often gets forgotten because it isn’t a direct form of moisture like rain or snow. Your house may look completely dry from the curb, but porous materials like wood and mortar might be damp because of humidity. Whenever you paint, you’ll want a warm and dry day and to ensure that all of the surfaces you’re going to paint are dry as well.Know Your WindowHaving ruled out the extreme months of summer and winter, we’re starting to get a window of time to work with. It is important to remember that depending on where you live, this window might be different. While exterior painting in Texas might be possible until December, it might only be viable until October in Michigan! It’s important to know your window where temperatures won’t be extreme, but will also be fairly static. This means that temperatures wont fluctuate too much from daytime to nighttime, as this confuses paint as it’s trying to cure. Generally, good windows for painting are early summer months and early fall months because of minimal rain and temperature fluctuations.Planning and PrepPlan, plan, plan! With all the factors that go into your painting project, you need to make sure that you have everything straight before you start. So what are some things to think about and prepare for? Most importantly, you need to plan for the weather. However, this involves more than just picking a few clear days for your painting window. You’ll need to ensure that the days leading up to and after painting are dry so that your house can dry out, and so that your paint doesn’t get rained on while it’s drying. You’ll also want to check the weather for the nights in your painting window. Sometimes people forget that paint is still dying at night! The weather isn’t the only thing to plan for. Different types of primer, paint, and finish can affect when you should paint your house – and there are A LOT of paint options out there. Need help prepping for your exterior painting project? From deciding what type of paint is best for your home, to settling on the right time to begin painting, our professional painters want to help! Call us today! Whether you just need help starting, or you’d like us to handle your whole project, Foothills specializes in excellent customer service, prompt and clear communication, and extreme attention to detail.
